Internet Banking FAQ

We've developed this list of FAQ's based on actual customer questions and suggestions. Please e-mail us with your questions, comments or suggestions.

System Requirements & 128 Bit Encryption

Does Prosperity Internet Banking have any specific systems requirements?
Prosperity does require that your Internet browser software support the 128-bit encryption standard. Additionally, the speed at which your computer processes information, and modem speed are factors in how fast pages load up in Prosperity Internet Banking. Additionally, Internet Service Providers offer a variety of connection services which impact Internet speed.

How often will I be required to upgrade my system?
The 128-bit encryption standard is very strong, one of the strongest in the industry today, and we have no immediate plans to update. However, because of the speed at which Internet technology advances, it is reasonable to assume that we will continue to enhance our systems as new technologies emerge.

How do I know if my browser supports 128-bit encryption?
When you log into Prosperity Internet Banking, if you encounter a screen warning about 128-bit encryption, and cannot get past the screen, then your browser is not updated.

When I click "Log in to Internet Banking", I get a screen about "128-bit encryption". I can't get past this page. What do I need to do?
Follow the links shown on the screen to upgrade your browser to support 128-bit encryption. If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, click the link to go to Microsoft's upgrade page. If you use Netscape, click the link to go to Netscape's upgrade page.

I've already downloaded the upgrade, but I still get the 128-bit encryption screen. Why?
Typically, there are two methods for downloading software from the Internet. One method is to download the file, and then run it from the current location. What this does is down load the program, and then automatically begins the install process. The other method is to download the file, and save it to disk. If this method is chosen, after the download is completed, you need to manually install the program. Be sure to note the file name and where it is being written (either on your hard-drive to a floppy disk). After the download is complete, open the file and the install process will begin. Netscape offers a service called "Smart Download". This program allows the download to be stopped and then restarted. Both Microsoft and Netscape offer instructions for downloading from their sites. It is recommended that you review these instructions if you are experiencing difficulty with the download.

Why does Prosperity Bank require special software?
The encryption download is not special proprietary software. Instead it is an upgrade to your existing browser software. Newer versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape come standard with 128-bit encryption. The upgrade links on our web site actually take you to the browser product's site, where their free upgrades are available.

Why does Prosperity Bank require that my browser support 128-bit encryption?
Security is the primary reason for requiring use of a browser with 128-bit encryption. Banks have traditionally been expected to provide the highest level of security. It is one reason banks exist - to secure customers' money, personal financial information, and monetary transactions. We take security very seriously, particularly when it comes to transaction performed over the Internet. By taking such measures, we aim to protect our customers and diminish Internet fraud.

Downloading to Third-Party Money Management Programs

How do I download history into third-party money management programs, and what download formats are available?
When logged in to an Internet Banking session, go to the "Home Banking" drop down box. Select the option "Download"; click the "Go" button. Follow the prompts. Download formats available are:

  • Open Financial Exchange (.OFX - for Microsoft® Money)
  • Open Financial Exchange (.QFX - for Intuit® Quicken)
  • Intuit Interchange Format (.IIF - for Intuit® QuickBooks)
  • Personal Finance (.QIF)
  • Spreadsheet (.CSV)
  • Word Processing (.TXT)

If you download for Money, Quicken or QuickBooks, the file downloaded does not automatically update transactions in the reconcilement software application. Instead, when downloading you are asked to save the information in a file. You then need to access your reconcilement software and import the file. Prosperity does not provide support for using any reconcilement software packages, only downloading the history file. If you have questions about using your reconcilement software and importing the history file, you will need to contact their software support.

I use Microsoft Money to reconcile my accounts. Can I download statement history directly into Money?
If your version of Microsoft Money allows you to bank online, you can seamlessly connect to our web site, download statement information, then reconcile your account. Money requires you to input our web address and be connected to the Internet. Money will open a browser in its program and allow you log on to our web site. Once logged in, under the "Home Banking" section, select the "Download" function. Follow the prompts. *Special Note - Prosperity Bank does not support third-party money management programs. If you need assistance with Microsoft Money, please contact their support center. Prosperity can assist with creating the download file in Prosperity Net Bank.

I use Quicken to reconcile my accounts. Can I download statement history directly into Quicken?
Prosperity is not registered with Quicken to offer the Web Connect feature. However, Prosperity Internet Banking can create the required .QIF file to import into Quicken. To create the .IIF file, log on to Prosperity Internet Banking. Under the "Home Banking" section, select the "Download" function. Follow the prompts. *Special Note - Prosperity Bank does not support third-party money management programs. If you need assistance with Quicken, please contact their support center. Prosperity can assist with creating the download file in Prosperity Net Bank.

I use QuickBooks to reconcile my accounts. Can I download statement history directly into QuickBooks?
Prosperity is not registered with QuickBooks to offer the Web Connect feature. However, Prosperity Internet Banking can create the required .IIF file to import into QuickBooks. To create the .IIF file, log on to Prosperity Net Bank. Under the "Home Banking" section, select the "Download" function. Follow the prompts. *Special Note - Prosperity Bank does not support third-party money management programs. If you need assistance with QuickBooks, please contact their support center. Prosperity can assist with creating the download file in Prosperity Net Bank.

I use another money management program instead of Quicken, QuickBooks or Money. How can I create a download file?
Other download file options are .CSV (comma delimited) and .TXT (text file). If you are familiar with working with databases, these file types may satisfy your needs. For example, .CSV files can be opened in both Excel and Lotus. *Special Note - Prosperity Bank does not support third-party money management programs. If you need assistance with a third-party program, please contact their support center. Prosperity can assist with creating the download .CSV or .TXT files in Prosperity Internet Banking.

Using Prosperity Net Bank

How do I log on to Prosperity Internet Banking?
Go to our web site, www.prosperitybankusa.com. At the home page, click the "Log In to Internet Banking" link. You will be required to have a 12-digit Internet Banking ID and 4-digit PIN to access an Internet Banking session.

Can I change the 12-digit Internet Banking ID number?
Yes. Once logged in to an Internet Banking session, go to the "Home Banking" drop down box. Select the option "Management", click the "Go" button. A list of functions will appear. Select "Change Personal ID (Alias)". Follow the prompts. Once changed, either the 12-digit ID or the Alias name will work when you log in.

Can I change the 4-digit Net Bank PIN number?
When you first sign on to Internet Banking, you will be required to change your PIN from the default assigned. However, you may change your PIN anytime thereafter. Once logged in to an Internet Banking session, go to the "Home Banking" drop down box. Select the option "Management", click the "Go" button. A list of functions will appear. Select "Change PIN". Follow the prompts.

Can I change my Account names?
Yes, you may change your account names at any time. Once logged in to an Internet Banking session, go to the "Home Banking" drop down box. Select the option "Management", click the "Go" button. A list of functions will appear. Select "Change Pseudo Account Name". Follow the prompts.

Do I need a separate ID and PIN for Bill Pay?
Yes, the Bill Pay feature requires a separate ID and PIN. When you originally signed up, if you selected Net Bank with Bill Pay you will receive the Bill Pay ID and PIN within 7 business days. If you did not sign up for Bill Pay, please contact your local banking center to enroll. Some fees do apply for Bill Pay.

Help! I've locked myself out! How do I get signed on?
After three invalid PIN attempts, an Internet Banking user is locked out. This is an added security feature to prevent an unauthorized person from accessing your account information. If you are locked out, please contact your local banking center. Your PIN can be reset for you.

Please Note: Internet Explorer has the ability to remember passwords and PINs as you surf the net. If this feature is turned on in your Explorer browser, you may experience lock out problems. When on the Log In screen, a link is available which walks you through turning off this feature in your browser for Net Bank.

When I make a transfer or stop payment, how do I know it will be processed?
Whenever you make a transfer or place a stop payment order online, you will receive a confirmation number. Record this number. In the event you have a question about a transfer or stop payment, you will need to provide the reference number. In addition, because Internet Banking is on-line, real-time, if you make a transfer to your account during regular banking hours up to 6:00 PM, it will be reflected in your Available Balance. You may then access this with your Prosperity Bank ATM or Debit Card. Transfers made after 6:00 PM, or on non-business days, will be scheduled to process the next business day after the transfer request is made.
